Sandy Norton cosner@kastner.net has several questions about the Disbrow
Family
"I'm researching the
Disbrow
family of Bedford County."
"Joseph Disbrow
appeared in the 1800 census in Frederick County, MD along with
a John Disbrow. Joseph Disbrow married Hannah Wimmer (Weimer) and they
moved to West Providence Twp.,
Bedford Co. and bought land
from Joseph Sparks. Joseph Disbrow appeared in the 1810
Bedford Co. census. Later
he was found selling land to John Disbrow, possibly the
son of Joseph?
This is a different John Disbrow
than the one in MD. Was that one Joseph's brother?
There are numerous land
transactions under the name Disbrow,
Disberry and Disborough in
Bedford County. There are
wills for Joseph and Matilda Disbrow. Anther son of Joseph?
Or maybe John's? One of
the land documents was for Abraham Disbro(w) who is my gggrandfather.
He was selling land to John
Disbrow in
1839, who was identified as his brother. Abraham Disbro(w)
showed up in the 1840 census
in Richland County, OH. Abraham also sold land to Mahlon Sparks
in 1839. Mahlon in later years was shown to be a neighbor of
Abraham Disbro(w) in Newville, Richland County OH. An affidavit
was also found in the Civil War papers of Abraham that had been
written by Mahlon Sparks
Abraham Disbro(w) died in the
Civil War and is buried in the National Cemetery in Jefferson
Barracks.
John Disbrow died in 1876
was buried on the farm along with Rebecca, his wife, and Jonathon
Roller
and his wife. The Disbrow cemetery
is marked on the Providence Twp., Bedford Co. map.
In John's will, he left
everything to his nephew, James W. South. Who were James'
parents?
He's believed to have married
Rebecca McDaniel. He sold the land in 1877, but where did he
go?
I believe that Joseph Disbrow
is Abraham's father, but I need the proof. I now know that John
is his brother. I've ordered additional land documents and hope
there may be more information there. Does anyone
recognize this family? Any
help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated."
