Thomas Vickroy was a settler
in Bedford Co., PA circa 1781 or earlier.
His father was from Devon,
England but was said to have been of Scottish ancestry.
Thomas served in the Revolutionary
War.
His brothers Nathan, George
& William are also known to have lived in
Bedford Co., PA after moving
from MD.
Thomas Vickroy, born Oct. 19,
1754 in Queen Anne's County, Maryland; the
eldest son of Hugh & Margaret Phillips / Viccary.*
Thomas' first wife was
Elizabeth Francis whom he married in 1777, supposedly in Bedford
County, PA.
Thomas & Elizabeth had
5 children:
Joseph (6/22/1780--1822)
Mary (b. 10/14/1783 m. Conrad
Piper)
Elizabeth (b. 11/4/1788
m. Rev. John Slick)
Sarah "Sally" (4/19/1791--2/10/1835 m. Michael Dunn)
However, Sarah Ann (Atlee)
Vickroy
was not his mother as named on the memorial.
Sarah would have been only
12 years old when Thomas, Jr. was born.
Thomas Vickroy Sr. married secondly
Sarah Ann Atlee
(daughter of William &
Esther Atlee of Lancaster, PA).
Sarah Ann Atlee / Vickroy
was born 6/5/1780 & died 9/3/1868.
She & Thomas, Sr. were
married 10/27/1796 in Lancaster, PA.
Thomas Vickroy Sr. & Sarah
had 13 children together. Their children were:

Thomas Vickroy, Sr. died 6/9/1845
and is buried with Sarah,
his 2nd wife in Spring Meadow
Quaker Cemetery in Bedford Co., PA.
Thomas Vickroy seems to have
arrived in Bedford Co., PA circa 1777. He was a
Postmaster & Census Enumerator for Bedford Co., PA. He owned
land in Alum
Bank & Quemahoning Twp. as well as land in what later became
Somerset Co., PA.
The 1800 Census for Bedford
Co., PA shows Thomas along with 2 of his
brothers, namely Nathan & William.
Thomas served in the Revolutionary
War. He is listed as having served in 7th
Co.; 3rd Battalion; Bedford County Militia---Capt. Wm. McCall's
Co.
Thomas Vickroy , along with
George Woods surveyed & laid out the planning for
the City of Pittsburgh, PA. Streets named Atlee, Harlan, Vickroy,
etc. in
Pittsburgh are in memory of this family.

of the St Luke's Parish, Queen Ann Co., MD Records which lists
Thomas' DOB as Oct. 19, 1754 & his parents as Hugh &
Margaret Viccary. Thomas' surname is also listed as Viccary
but he & his siblings seemed to have changed that at some
