Jesse Robinette
Born June 9, 1846
Died October 31, 1868
Can someone tell us more about Jesse and his family?

Oct. 29, 2000: Jerry MILLER writes to say that "Jesse ROBINETTE married
Susan McELFISH, who was a daughter of Elza & Mary Ann BROWNING / McELFISH.
They are both buried in this cemetery. Susan & Jesse had one daughter, Zella, who married
John ROLAND a son of John A. & Barbara Ellen BENNETT / ROWLAND. "

Thank you Jerry! (Jerry Tanker06@aol.com would also like to know who Jesse's parents were.)

Laura V. His Wife
1848 - 1936
Who were Aaron & Laura's parents?
---------------------------------------------------------
August 24, 2000 - Donald Nazelrod writes:

"Laura V. Perdew was Laura V. Stallings, the daughter of John T. Stallings and his wife, Eliza Ward. In 1860, Aaron, who was born in Pennsylvania, was living in the household of John and Eliza, apparently as a farm hand. His age is given as 25; Laura was twelve years old.

Allegany County, MD, Marriages, Liber 3, page 74: Aaron D. Perdew, 34.6 year old male millwright of
Allegany County, MD to Laura Virginia Stallings, 18.9 year old female maid (unmarried), of Allegany County.
Married by M.G. Dean on 16 May 1867. M.G. Dean was the Revernd Mathias Dean, a farmer/Methodist
minister from the Flintstone area. At about the time of this marriage he was also an elected delegate to the
Maryland House of Delegates. He was apparently a great favorite of the people, and performed many
marriges and funerals.

John T. Stallings was the son of Samuel Stallings and his wife, Lurena Twigg, who was the daughter of John and Rebecca Twigg.

Eliza
Ward was the daughter of Isaac Ward and Sarah Burgess. After Isaac's death, Sarah married, as his second wife, to John McElfish Twigg, the son of John Twigg and Susannah McElfish. He was the son of John and Rebecca Twigg, and a sister to John T. Stalling's mother, Lurena.

After Sarah Burgess Ward Twigg died, her estate was left to her grandchildren, the children of Eliza Ward Stallings. There are several accountings of this estate in the papers of the Orphans Court, Allegany County, Maryland, with George Thurston acting as administrator. Several of these include payments to "Laura V. Stallings, now Perdew". In Orphans Court Proceedings, Liber J, page 280/281 is a petition for a payment of $104.33 to Laura V. (Stallings) Perdew, as an advance on her share, in order that she and her husband, Aaron, can pay a $100.00 note against them. This petition was approved on 20 October 1868, so we do have proof that Laura V. Stallings did marry Aaron Perdew, and that they were married by that date.

I was working on Bedford County censuses today, recopying information that I had gleaned from Michael Caldwell's excellent transcription of the 1850 Census, on the Bedford County GenWeb site. I found:

1850 Census, Southampton Township, Bedford County, PA
page 153B, D/F# 151 -
Perdue, Mary H., 62 YO, b. PA
Wigfield, Martha, 55 YO, b. PA
PERDUE, AARON D., 18 YO laborer, b. PA, attended school in the year

While this does not quite fit with his age on the 1860 census (25), it does fit in with his birthyear from his gravestone. The relationship is not quite clear here. Mary could be his mother, or his grandmother, or some other female relative that he is working for. But it should give someone a direction to look in.

Hope this might be of interest to someone."
