Ray's Hill (Breezewood)
was originally founded by John
Nycum (1797 - 1878), who bought
land here
in about 1820. John Nycum
constructed many of the early Ray's Hill stores and business
establishments.

The Mt. Zion Evangelical
Lutheran Church congregation was originally organized in about
1835 and after worshipping many years in a frame structure, in
1856, the existing brick church was constructed.
