Early Chaneysville area M. E. services were conducted by Rev. Thomas Leakins in the home of
Joseph Powell in 1838, and later, they were held in the Adams Schoolhouse, until about 1860,
when the present Chaneysville M. E. Church building (above - rear) was constructed.

He was briefly married to Elizabeth Imes, a daughter of
William and Elizabeth Gordon/Imes. This marriage
ended in a divorce in Nov. 1871.

Abel Johnson became guardian of Philip and Mary's children,
"Louie" Lillian E., Emanual, and Solomon upon Philip's death in 1892.
 
I descend from Philip b. 1744 d. 1825 near Dayton, Ohio.
His first wife is unknown. His second wife was Agnes Clapper,

William Henry Knee (born August 20, 1853 in Frostburg, Md.) was one of at least 8 children
of Philip & Elizabeth M. Lenchbaugh / Knee. (more on William) William Knee married
Eliza J. Hamilton on October 31, 1875 in Chaneysville. Eliza only lived to be 30 years of age.
She died soon after the death of their daughter Ada. They both rest in this Chaneysville Cemetery:
